Deakin University Indigenous Oration

Deakin University’s annual Indigenous Oration promotes and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, perspectives and issues, reflecting the University’s commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous Knowledges. The 2026 oration, A fair and just future for First Peoples: Social Justice Report 2025, will be delivered by Katie Kiss, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner. The address will focus on the findings and themes of the 2025 Social Justice Report and the continuing work toward fairness and justice for First Peoples. It offers audiences an opportunity to hear directly from a national human rights leader about contemporary Indigenous social justice, reconciliation and the role of institutions and communities in creating change. The event is suited to the general public, students, educators, policy professionals and anyone interested in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, human rights, reconciliation and Indigenous Knowledges. It takes place at The Edge, Fed Square, Flinders Street, Melbourne, on Wednesday 29 July 2026 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Entry is free, but online registration through Deakin University’s official event page is required. The venue lists accessible toilets, mobility access and registered service animals.
