Derrick Gee’s Radio Hour

Derrick Gee’s Radio Hour transforms Melbourne Recital Centre into a living room filled with friends for a distinctive mix of music talk show, communal listening session and live performance. Sydney/Eora-based DJ and tastemaker Derrick Gee is known for uncovering the emotional worlds inside music and has built an international following through his playful, deeply curious approach to listening and culture. Following a sold-out Sydney Opera House performance, the Radio Hour arrives in Naarm/Melbourne with guest appearances from acclaimed singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin and Michael Kucyk, founder of cult label Efficient Space. Inspired by radio hours of the past, the 90-minute program moves between specially curated tracks, live performance and personal reflection. Gee draws on a vast musical archive to trace connections between music, culture and community, using songs as gateways into lively and heartfelt conversations about what it means to truly listen. Presented as part of the City of Melbourne’s Now or Never festival, the event is suited to music fans, curious listeners and audiences interested in contemporary culture, storytelling and the ideas that surround the music we share. It takes place in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall at Melbourne Recital Centre, 31 Sturt Street, Southbank, on Wednesday 26 August 2026 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
