Duruflé's Requiem

Duruflé’s Requiem brings together the MSO Chorus and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Chorus beneath the four-storey Grand Organ of Melbourne Town Hall. Warren Trevelyan-Jones conducts, with Joseph Nolan at the organ, mezzo-soprano Sally-Anne Russell and baritone Simon Meadows. The program traces French sacred music across nearly a century: Fauré’s graceful Cantique de Jean Racine, Duruflé’s Quatre Motets sur des thèmes grégoriens and Duruflé’s ethereal Requiem. Drawing on Gregorian chant and medieval melodic traditions, the music combines choral clarity with the colour and scale of one of Australia’s great pipe organs. The concert will appeal to choral audiences, organ enthusiasts, sacred-music listeners and newcomers seeking a concentrated, atmospheric performance. The concert is on Friday 4 September 2026 at 7:30pm at Melbourne Town Hall, 90–130 Swanston Street, Melbourne VIC 3000. It runs for approximately 1 hour 10 minutes with no interval.
