The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra turns this concert into a miniature Baroque festival with Australian harpsichordist and early-music specialist Kristian Bezuidenhout. The program pairs Handel's Water Music Suites Nos.1 and 2, Overture to Admeto and Concerto Grosso Op.3 No.5 with Bach's Orchestral Suite No.1, a Cantata Sinfonia and Bezuidenhout's own harpsichord arrangement of Contrapunctus XIV from The Art of Fugue. It is designed for Baroque enthusiasts, orchestral audiences and newcomers who want to hear stately, colourful music from the 1700s.
