Japanese Culture Experience Day
Japanese Culture Experience Day 2026 is a family-friendly program of hands-on Japanese arts, crafts, food and cultural workshops led by professional Japanese artists based in Melbourne. The program spans traditional and contemporary practices including matcha preparation, sumi-e ink painting, stamp carving, ceramic decorating and pottery, origami, calligraphy, mizuhiki cord art, tsumami zaiku and kokedama. A makers' area also offers handcrafted works, original art and speciality products from independent Japanese creators.
The event runs from 12:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday 1 August 2026 at JAPANEASY, Level 1, 183 Exhibition Street, Melbourne. Each workshop has its own timetable, class size and age guidance. The day welcomes all ages and skill levels, including beginners, but some sessions are restricted to ages 7+, 12+ or 15+.
Current workshop prices advertised by the organiser range from $60 to $120, with examples including $60, $65, $71.50, $80, $82, $88, $95, $98, $100 and $115 depending on the activity and materials. Online booking is recommended because places are limited; walk-ins may join workshops if space remains. Book through the official JAPANEASY event page and follow the individual ticket links there.
