Make a Memory

Make a Memory is a free drop-in family craft activity inspired by These Long-Loved Things, the picture book by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh. Children construct their own photo frame and fill it with a meaningful memory—a favourite place, object, person, feeling or fleeting moment—using drawing, writing and imagination. Finished frames can be taken home as keepsakes or added to the Library's growing installation, where individual memories become part of a shared artwork. Upcoming sessions run from 3:00pm to 5:00pm every Saturday and Sunday from 1 August through 13 September 2026 in Create Quarter at The Quad, State Library Victoria, 328 Swanston Street, Melbourne. The activity originally began on 18 July; the listed start date reflects the next session after publication. Admission and materials are genuinely free, no booking is required, and families may drop in at any time during a session. The activity is designed for children aged 5–12. A parent or carer must attend and remain with their child or children for the entire activity. State Library Victoria confirms wheelchair access.
