Multimmersion: Upside Down V2 is a free outdoor light installation by Taiwanese artist AKA Chang, presented as part of Melbourne’s Now or Never festival. The work transforms the Yarra River – Birrarung into a shifting night-time canvas as laser beams move across the water, producing kaleidoscopic patterns, mirrored dimensions and changing reflections.
Chang combines technology, light and the river landscape to blur the boundaries between reality and reflection. Visitors are invited to pause at the Lower Terrace in Birrarung Marr and experience an artwork that considers perception, identity and our connection with the world around us. The event is listed as family-friendly.
The installation runs across two long weekends: Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 August and Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 August 2026. It operates from 6pm–10pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and from 6pm–9pm on Sundays. Entry is free and no booking is required.
