Official opening of the expansion of Gunyama Park, Zetland

Celebrate the official opening of the expanded Gunyama Park and George Julius Avenue with a free family event and festival atmosphere. The 6,300-square-metre park adds a playground with 70 metres of tunnels and tube slides, a skate plaza, water play, more than 150 new trees, a learning circle, lawn, barbecues and picnic tables. Play areas include features for toddlers and primary-school children such as swings, a flying fox, climbing ropes, in-ground trampolines, sand play, musical elements and obstacles. The opening runs on Saturday 15 August 2026 from 1:30pm to 3:00pm at Gunyama Park Playground, corner of George Julius Avenue and Zetland Avenue, Zetland. The program includes a live DJ, roving entertainers, children's activities, picnic food and free skate workshops. The Lord Mayor's official opening is scheduled for 1:45pm. Admission is free and no general booking is listed. Skate sessions use walk-up registration: 1:15–1:30pm for the 1:30pm class and 2:00–2:15pm for the 2:15pm jam. Skateboards and helmets are supplied, and participants or guardians must sign an online waiver. The venue has a clear accessible path of travel and an accessible toilet.
